Levon Helm, legendary lead singer of The Band, died April 19, 2012. A day later, Midnight Spin played Red Palace in DC, a burlesque lounge on H street that sadly, like so many other venues, is now closed.
We played in DC a lot, and we played Cripple Creek a lot, but it’s not everyday that we lose one of the great voices in the pantheon of rock and roll. I have about 20 versions of us playing Cripple Creek, but none come close to the level of energy and joy that powered through the amps and PA that Spring night on H street.
We also played The Weight that night. It was a fun show and the sound was great. Likely will have more to come from Red Palace in future posts.
Mike also did an interview with Ticket Alternative before the show and talked about some of our other musical-inspos growing up.
